Iron is the most common and abundant heavy metal on the earth’s crust.
The material of which the central core of our planet is made up.
It is rarely found pure and is essential for the steel industry: it allows you to design, invent, forge and build many structures.
It is solid, it is possible to graduate its section of resistance to stress, it is indestructible and can be totally recovered.
Pure iron comes in the form of a silvery metal, very flexible, elastic and easy to work both hot and cold.
The iron rod is an industrial and technical material commonly used to package building reinforcement which, incorporated in concrete, supports architectural constructions.
The technical characteristics and the particular rib of the iron rod lend themselves to experimentation in other areas and to the creation of elements and furnishing accessories for indoors and outdoors.
The strength of the iron allows to build structures that bear a high load while maintaining a small thickness.
Historically
The testimony of the importance of iron in the past is given by the historical period of the same name: the Iron Age.
The first traces of the use of iron date back to the era of the Sumerians and the Egyptians who already 4000 years before Christ used it to manufacture small objects, such as spearheads and jewels made from iron recovered from meteorites.
Iron in our Design Concept
It is the main material of our products.
Woven iron rod weaves make up the Pipedesign design: an architecture of great lightness.
We select local craftsmen who bring out the material by working it as little as possible and accepting the imperfections that are a sign of the uniqueness of the material.
Our artisans are artists who caress and admire their materials and carry out their work with the passion of those who do this job and have it in their DNA for generations.
The folding is done by hand, with the support of numerically controlled machines.
The raw taste of the raw material can present surface defects such as scratches or light-dark effects that can clash with the more traditional aesthetic tastes.
This is because the material is alive and can therefore present imperfections.
Pipedesign chose a powder coated finish to make the surface perfectly uniform and easier to manage
Each piece can be customized thanks to an extensive range of finishes and colors available.
The combination with other materials such as glass, marble and wood make it elegant and versatile.
Its simplicity, its being matter and material at the same time, its reference to origins and traditions, its raw and authentic being, are the reasons why the iron rod represents the common thread of all Pipedesign products.
